The Persian Gabbeh 118 x 88 from One of a Kind is part of our multicoloured rugs collection. Gabbeh rugs are hand knotted by women from the Qashqai and Luri tribes of south-western Iran. The rugs are woven using thick hand spun wool which is often left un-dyed, the use of both natural and chrome dyes allows bright colours to be used, usually depicting animals or people. This piece has a 20 mm thick lustrous pile, with "abrash " or variation across the piece. The rug is out of square as can be seen in the main image but we feel this does not detract from the charm of the piece. Originally made for their own use, these rugs were not exported in any quantities to the West until the 1980's as they were thought to be too crude to be worth trading. Fortunately their artistic value has been recognised by many prestigious designers and avid rug collectors, the rugs are well suited to contemporary interior design as well as classic traditional room settings. This is a one of a kind rug and is available to buy in-store and on-line.
