The Afghan Veg Dyed Khan 301x 250 from One of a Kind is part of our red & ruby rugs collection. Inspired by the rugs traditionally woven by the Turkomen tribes of Central Asia, this piece features a repeating Turkmen gul design with a wide surrounding border. Throughout the nineties, many Afghans fled from the oppressive Taliban regime into Pakistan and the border region of North East Afghanistan. As a result, many thousands of skilled rug weavers found themselves working in weaving centres in the border areas of Pakistan. This rug is hand knotted by Afghan weavers using high quality, hand spun wool. The use of quality vegetable and natural dyes produces subtle "abrash" across the rug and a final hand washing process produces a beautiful lustre to the short 3 mm thick pile. The ends are finished with flat weave kilim work in a barber pole design and a short integral fringe. This beautiful one of a kind rug is available to buy in-store or on-line.
