The demand for traditional Moroccan handmade rugs and carpets has never been higher, each rug has a timeless charm and brings a unique and simplistic elegance that suits almost any interior that you can imagine. Our latest collections are inspired by these fine examples of North African folk art.
Original Benni Ouarain rugs have been woven by the Berber tribes of the North Atlas Mountains in Morocco since before the 7th Century. The designs look as fresh and relevant with today's interiors as they did when the Berber shaggy rug was first introduced to European homes in the middle of the twentieth century.
The designs are simple, inspired by traditional Berber Folk Art, the ground shades are usually un-dyed high quality wool in creamy whites and soft buttermilks with a long shag pile. Simple bold geometric designs are the norm, usually repeating diamonds worked in goat hair or wool dyed in henna.
Used extensively by some of the World's top designers Benni rugs can command high prices and be hard to source, especially for vintage older pieces. Inspired by these traditional works of art we have introduced three new collections to our range that can give you that designer look without the designer budget.
Our Lana collection is machine woven by Mastercraft using a heavy New Zealand wool pile with accents of fine high quality polyester, available in two designs and matching plains in a neutral colour palette. Prices start from only £95.00 with four size options.
For those wanting something a little easier to clean you could try our Berber Shaggy by Asiatic, machine woven using a heat set polypropylene yarn with a thick shag pile, available in four standard sizes starting from £135.00.
Our latest addition is the Benni collection by The Plantation Rug Company, named after the Nomadic tribe famous for these beautiful rugs. The two designs are sympathetic to the originals with a sumptuous deep shag pile in pure wool. Available in three sizes with prices starting at £300.00 for a 180 x 120cm.
