Afghan Nahzat's were first imported to Europe by OCM in 1929. Only rugs dyed in a certain way will respond to the washing process, woven in Aqcha, Northern Afghanistan by Esari weavers using fine Karakul wool from the local fat tailed sheep and dyed with imported European dyes. Originally these rugs were washed in Amritsar and OCMs washing plant in the Old Kent Road.The process was a closely guarded secret for many years.Today the rugs are washed in Switzerland. A very thick lustrious wool pile approximately 10mm thick.
