In the late 19th Century a Manchester based firm of Oriental Carpet importers called Ziegler & Company began importing programmed rugs from their manufacturing base in Sultanabad ( now Arak ) in Iran.These rugs were based on traditional Persian Mahal and Farahan designs but coloured to European tastes.These rugs have become highly collectable and in some cases have commanded huge sums of money.Todays Ziegler designs are made in various qualities in different locations around the world.These rugs were based on traditional Persian Mahal and Farahan designs but coloured to European tastes.Our Afghan Farhan rugs are handknotted by Afghan weavers around the border areas between Afghanistan and Pakistan the same as Ziegler production but using better yarns and only the very best weavers.The wool is the very best hand spun and natural dyed Ghazni quality giving a beautiful lustre to each piece.The pile is about 6mm -  8mm thick .
